The order has been placed by Camas Energy S.r.l., a company owned by Enerman S.r.l., an Italian wind power plant developer and W3 S.r.l., an energy producing company.
The wind energy project will be located near the town of Maida, in the province of Catanzaro in the Calabria region, which has a great wind potential and which is now starting to follow the wind energy development trend that we are seeing in other southern regions of Italy.
“We are very pleased to announce this wind farm project in Italy with this new customer, which shows the trust in our organisation, our products and our technology,” says Juan Araluce, President of Vestas Mediterranean.
Rainer Karan, Managing Director of Vestas Italia continues: “Vestas, as market leader in Italy, is playing a vital role in the development of wind power in the country. The Italian market is the third largest European market and we hope to continue contributing to this sustainable growth.”
“We are very satisfied with the signing of this important contract with Vestas, which we consider a trustworthy business partner that will ensure our wind farm a timely commissioning and a production output in line with the expectations,” comments Nicola Claudio Cirillo, CEO of Camas Energy S.r.l.
With a total installed capacity of 34 MW and an estimated annual production of 90,000 MWh per year, the Maida wind power plant will annually save the environment from almost 35,000 tons of CO2 emissions. Furthermore, it will generate enough electricity to power 37,500 Italian households per year.
Vestas has been operating in the Italian market since 1998 through the company Vestas Italia, with headquarters in Rome and offices in Taranto and San Giorgio. In addition, Vestas has currently two production facilities for blades and nacelles in Taranto in southern Italy.
Having delivered 2,236 MW in Italy by 31 December 2009, and a well structured service and maintenance organisation, Vestas is the market leader and most experienced partner within the wind energy industry in Italy.
