Local shipbuilders are seeking to nurture solar and wind energy related business as part of efforts to diversify their business portfolios amid weak demand for new ships.
Meanwhile HYUNDAI HEAVY INDUSTRIES CO. (KSE:009540), South Korea’s leading shipyard, is building a facility that manufactures wind turbines generators with a capacity of 1.65 megawatts.
Siemens to Supply Wind Turbines to Samsung
Siemens Energy will supply wind turbines generating a total of 600 MW of power to Samsung C&T for selected wind farm projects in southern Ontario.
Siemens Wind Power Business Unit CEO Jens-Peter Saul said the supply agreement strengthens its position in the rapidly growing wind power market in Canada.
Siemens has been working with Samsung C&T and its development partner Pattern Energy on this first phase of development under Ontario’s Feed-In Tariff (FIT) programme, where Samsung plans to develop 2,000 MW of wind energy over the next six years.
The supply agreement will aid the Ontario wind programme, while Siemens also intends to build a blade manufacturing site in Canada.
