"Upon completion, the California Valley Solar Ranch will produce clean, renewable energy to meet the power needs of approximately 100,000 homes. Equally important, it will be built with minimal impact to the land and habitat," said Ian Copeland, president of Bechtel’s Renewable Power division. "We are honored that SunPower Corporation selected Bechtel to deliver this world-class, large-scale solar facility that will advance the renewable energy industry."
Bechtel began working on the site in August under a Limited Notice to Proceed agreement. Construction of the facility is scheduled to take approximately two years.
Bechtel is a leader in the renewable power industry. In addition to its work on CVSR, the company is currently building the Ivanpah project in the Mojave Desert which is the largest concentrated solar thermal power (CSP) facility ever undertaken.
