Those 36 megawatts of renewable energy that will come in the next few days to the national grid will mean a decrease in fuel consumption.
In the second phase of the San Jacinto-Tizate geothermal energy project, to be concluded in late 2012 or early 2013, will generate another 36 megawatts, for a total of 72 new megawatts, bringing the energy savings will be up to 80 million dollars annually.
San Jacinto geothermal energy project-Tizate is executed by the company Polaris Energy Nicaragua, a subsidiary of Canadian company Polaris Geothermal Inc. (PGI). For the generation of 72 megawatts of power with the force of the volcanoes, Polaris will invest a total of $ 415 million in equity and loans from international organizations, said the minister, who made an inspection by the San Jacinto geothermal field -Tizate.
This plant generates 10 megawatts and with the addition of 36 new megawatts by the end of this year, will generate a total of 46 megawatts in its first phase of expansion. According to government estimates, in 2015 the interconnected system of power generation in Nicaragua to 80% depend on natural resources and 20% thermal.
